How it works

Your point of sale already knows the menu. We put it on the wall.

Setup is four steps and takes about ten minutes. After that the only place you ever change a price is the till, exactly as you do now.

  1. 1

    Connect your POS

Paste the API credentials from Toast or Clover. It is read-only: we look at your menu, never your orders or your customers.

    CCloverConnect
Square, Lightspeed & more on request
  2. 2

    Your menu arrives

Every item, price, category and calorie count is pulled in. Change a price at the till and it updates here on its own.

    Smash Burger$12.50
    Buttermilk Chicken$11.75
    Rosemary Fries$4.25

    + 46 more, synced 2 minutes ago

  3. 3

    Lay out the board

Drag menu panels, headings, images and a clock onto the canvas. Set one board for breakfast and another for dinner.

  4. 4

    Pair the screen

Plug a player into the TV. It shows a six-digit code and a QR code. Enter one or scan the other and the board is live.

What we read, and what we do not

The connection to your POS is read-only and limited to the menu. We never see an order, a customer, a card number or a staff record.

We read

  • Item names
  • Prices
  • Categories
  • Descriptions
  • Calorie counts
  • Sold-out status

We never read

  • Orders or tickets
  • Customer records
  • Payments or card data
  • Staff and payroll
  • Sales reports
  • Anything outside the menu

Credentials are encrypted at rest and can be revoked from your POS at any time, which immediately stops the sync. Read the privacy policy.

What happens when something goes wrong

A menu board that goes blank is worse than no menu board. Every failure we can anticipate ends with the screen still showing a correct menu.

Your internet drops

The player keeps showing the board it already has. It retries quietly in the background and picks up any changes when the line comes back.

Our service is unreachable

Identical behaviour. The player never depends on us being up to keep a menu on the wall, only to change one.

The TV loses power

The player restores its last board from storage on the device as soon as it boots, before it has any network at all.

The one thing that cannot survive a total outage is a change you make during it. Prices already on the screen stay correct; a price you edit while the player is offline reaches it when the connection returns.

Hardware

Any TV with an HDMI port, plus a player. Two ways to get one.

Option one

Use your own dongle

Buy a Fire TV Stick or an Android TV dongle anywhere, typically $25 to $40. Install the CanvaScreens player, open it, and pair. You keep the hardware and can replace it yourself.

  1. 1Download the player app from your dashboard
  2. 2Install it on the device
  3. 3The player shows a six-digit code and a QR code
  4. 4Scan it with your phone, or type the code into the dashboard

Option two

We ship you a ready player

Tell us how many screens and where. Players arrive with the app already installed and already assigned to your account. Plug in HDMI, plug in power, join the wifi. The board appears.

  1. 1Tell us the sites and screen counts
  2. 2Players arrive labelled per site
  3. 3Plug into HDMI and power
  4. 4Join wifi once. Nothing else to configure.

Still have a question?

Tell us your POS and how many screens, and we will tell you honestly whether this fits.
